Outrageous Back Heel Goal and Arshavin Assist

International / Play of the Week / June 1, 2016

We’re taking you all the way to Kazakhstan for this edition of the play of the week.

FC Kairat, a club that plays in the Kazakhstan Premier League, met league competitors FC Akzhayik Uralsk.

The match, which was embroiled in a 2-2 deadlock at the time the clips take off, was a fixture in their season, which is far from over. However, you know from the fact we’re even talking about this match that 2-2 is not how the game would finish.

Brace yourselves Arsenal fans.

Wantaway attacker, (AKA: Arsenal’s biggest signing of the time, McDonalds lover, and van Persie’s least favorite player) Andrey Arshavin, must’ve bounced all around Europe (read as: Russia) before finding a home in Kazhakstan.

And find a home he did, as this clip shows. In what could be a contender for the FIFA Puskas award, Arshavin showed some of the brilliance that Arsenal signed him for so many years ago.

He pinged in a perfect pass to FC Kairat frontman, Leandre Tawamba, who audaciously backheeled a shot from outside the box.

Well, color me surprised. His shot nestled perfectly into the opposite corner, making the goalie look quite the fool.

That’s enough talking. Just watch. And appreciate.
